Alpine touring 25 -27 . 02 .2011

  Well after the previous great week-end with ice climbing , i decided that i should try and break something so what best option then to try to learn to ski but ,, off piste ,, and with a friend who was the same ultra experienced skier like me( first time with a pair of them on).
  So as the decision was made to go and try to ski ( for me it was the second time i placed a pair of alpine touring skis ) . I got 2 pairs of skis form some friends older  models with silvretta 404 bindings , and some weird fritzki bindings on the other pair , some skins and then we set the destination : Rodnei Mountains .
  But we decided since we were not sure of the status of the snow of our ability or willingness to learn we took the tent the ice axes crampons and whole lot of other equipment just in case we decided ski-ing was not for us.
  As soon as Marius came  in Cluj we went for a few beers to get  our energy levels up :) since our train was leaving at 1 40 am and we needed to wait for the second one in the middle of nowhere in -12 celsius for about 50 min.

   The 9 km uphill climb was  looking promising as it snowed well and the  road was getting more and more covered .

  O so swimming pool at 1100 hmm and spa and massage parlor , damn too good we are  broke students :D

  The ski piste was looking well covered with snow thow we were the one 2 persons around so the cable was not working .

  The 9 km climb with all the gear was quite strenuous , since we were not used to the  whole alpine touring thing , we wasted a lot of energy rather then gliding with them we were more like stepping .So after we arrived at the lodge Dorel was was nowhere to be found , we took the jetboil out and started to make hot coco and soup in a small room in the back of the lodge where he kept the wood needed for the stove and other tools .
  After about on hour he came and offered us some vodka ( and more hot tea ) and we got to story telling and it ended we did not set up the tent anymore  since we slept in an unheated room for free ( worked damn well as we had winter  bags ) . The rest of the evening passed were quickly with Dorel entertaining us and showing what he had  been working on the lodge since we have not been there for 2 years

  We woke up to  magnificent morning and will not blabber on , i will let the pictures describe the rest

   Mountain pool table at 1300 m:) we were playing with down jackets on as it was freeing in the room but who cared.
   All in all it was another great weekend in witch i learned a bit about how to use the skis and about the descent , took some decents falls some face plants , lot of laughs , a extremely nice trip .
